Gaye Hanson

Gaye Hanson is a nurse leader of Manitoba Cree ancestry with a life-long commitment to community service. Gaye is president of Hanson and Associates, an Indigenous management consulting company based in Whitehorse, Yukon that has been operating since 1994. With Gaye’s background in public administration and nursing and many years of experience, the company focuses on the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services and related policies for First Nation, urban Indigenous agencies, other non-government organizations and other governments (Canada, territorial and provincial). The scope of projects have been national, regional and local. Her collaboration with the Barnes Management Group (BMG) began more than 5 years ago and has resulted in well-developed relationships and the completion of a number of significant projects.    

Gaye’s areas of expertise include qualitative research, community engagement, Indigenous and rural/remote program and policy planning, development, implementation and evaluation; socio-cultural impact assessment; governance and managerial capacity building in self-government; fundraising and proposal development; cultural competency and reconciliation support; and, Indigenous peer support.  Gaye holds subject matter expertise in Indigenous research methods; health, social services, community justice, land-based healing related to addictions, trauma and mental health; palliative care and support for loss and grieving; public policy analysis, culturally grounded program design and human resources management. 

Gaye is the proud mother of an amazing daughter, mother-in-law to a courageous young man and grandmother to two beautiful girls. Gaye is also shamanic practitioner of close to 30 years of experience offering individual, couple and small group sessions, workshops, supported drumming circles and ceremonies including weddings and celebrations of life. Her passions include development of culturally-founded and land-based healing programs that actively support individual, family, community well-being. Gaye is a spirit-led helper who holds a treasured shamanic tradition along with a degrees in Nursing and Public Administration.
